New Overture to the UnderSecretary, June 2014

The USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources & Environment is the Boss of the Forest Service Chief, the top dog responsible for National Forest policies. There is a history of communications with that Office on the land use and rights issues of the ‘Rainbow Gatherings’, especially during the prior tenure of Mark Rey, c. 2001-08: For curious reasons he paid attention, engaged concerned stakeholders in various controversies, and some progress was made.
When Rey left, this initiative got lost in the Obama transition, and discussions stopped… 6 years ago.
On an educated hunch, the time is right to start them again, to restore this vital public discourse.
In this purpose a new overture has just gone out to the current Under Secretary, Robert Bonnie — an introductory Letter & package of background docs, to outline the issues, history and prospects:

This includes the full record of official correspondences to Rey’s Office from PCU•Free Assembly Project, covering key events & controversies of that era — presented in a Summary with direct web-links to the documents. The letter & archives are bundled in one stable PDF master file, easily shared and giving any recipient fast access to all the information. The appended Summary is based on this topical page on our website, which tells the whole story of that time:

The conveyance email to Mr. Bonnie was entitled ‘Assembly in the Woods – a New Discourse’… the agenda was clear:::
“It is hoped that this will commence broader new discussions with your Office, involving other savvy people who will speak for themselves, to continue and complete the work begun 10 years ago.
Many stakeholders have wished for this, so we are starting it.”
Constructive ideas & participation are encouraged… we are re-opening these official channels, and will follow up with further info & reports as the plot thickens.
